Rubbish clearance & skip hire in Dagenham

Dagenham is dominated by the Becontree estate, built by the London County Council in the 1920s and 1930s as short terraces of cottage-style houses on narrow roads. Barking and Dagenham Council issues skip permits only to contractors registered with it, never to residents, and has controlled parking zones in several parts of the borough.

Dagenham at a glance

Homes

Much of Dagenham is the Becontree Estate, built by the London County Council between 1921 and 1935 on cottage estate principles, with terraced houses and front gardens. A mid-terrace house has no side access, so garden waste and bulky items come through the house. The council treats the estate as a heritage asset and adopted a Becontree design code in June 2026. Beyond it are Dagenham Village around the parish church, Becontree Heath and part of Rush Green, and the new neighbourhoods of Beam Park and Dagenham Green near the Thames.

Building work

Domestic building work is concentrated on Becontree houses: rear extensions, loft conversions and porches. From November 2026, Article 4 Directions mean porches across the estate, and side or roof alterations on corner blocks, will need planning permission. Dagenham Village and the Chadwell Heath anti-aircraft gun site are conservation areas. Larger construction is under way at Beam Park and Dagenham Green, and Dagenham Heathway has a planning document adopted in June 2026. A parking bay must be suspended by the council before a skip occupies it, and stopping is prohibited on the A13 red route.

Businesses

Dagenham Heathway is one of the borough's key centres, with shops, a multi-storey car park and a regeneration framework adopted in 2026. Industry is concentrated at Dagenham Dock on the Thames, at the Dagenham engine plant, and on the Chadwell Heath Industrial Estate, which the council has identified as a transformation area. Eastbrook Studios, a film and television production centre, occupies a former pharmaceutical site at Dagenham East. Businesses here generate packaging, pallets, metal and production waste as well as shop and food waste. The A13 links the southern industrial areas.
