Rochford, Ashingdon and the surrounding villages: a steady mix of domestic clearances and commercial work near the airport.
Rochford is a small market town laid out around a crossroads, and its centre is a conservation area of brick and weatherboarded cottages from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries along North Street, West Street, East Street and Weir Pond Road. Pavements are narrow and traffic runs one way. Former Rochford Hospital buildings have been converted to homes, and newer housing fills Millview Meadows and Lever Lane. West of the centre, Elizabeth Gardens and Eastbury Park added 620 homes off Hall Road by 2022. In the old streets, vehicle position is the first thing to settle before a clearance.
Rayleigh Recycling Centre accepts electricals. Every visit has to be booked in advance, cars included. It's cars only, so no vans, pick-ups or large trailers. A small fridge in the back of the car is possible; a fridge-freezer or American-style unit usually isn't.
On Rochford's terraced streets there's rarely a drive, so the truck stops in the road, right by the front door.
Twenty-five minutes from base. We know the access constraints around the older Rochford village streets.
