Southend's a mix: Edwardian semis in Westcliff, seafront flats, and the older terraces near the high street. We work all of it.
Southend's housing changes between neighbourhoods. Westcliff and central Southchurch are tightly built Victorian and Edwardian terraces, many converted to flats, with little off-street parking. The centre mixes Victorian terraces with tower blocks and modern flats around Queensway. Prittlewell is mainly inter-war housing at lower density, including the Earls Hall and Manners Way estates of the 1930s. The city's conservation areas include Clifftown, Milton and Warrior Square. In the terraced streets a clearance generally means loading from the kerb, and converted flats add stairs.
Stock Road Household Waste Recycling Centre accepts electricals. Vans, pick-ups and trailers are accepted there with a booking. A small fridge in the back of the car is possible; a fridge-freezer or American-style unit usually isn't.
Terraced streets with resident parking are routine: the truck stops in the road for a few minutes while it's loaded.
We're on the seafront most weeks. We know which Southend streets the council are fussy about for skip permits, and which jobs are better as a wait-and-load.
