From our yard
Hadleigh is 20 minutes from our Wickford yard via the A132 and A1245 to the A127, east to Rayleigh Weir, then the A129 Rayleigh Road to the A13, so same-day wait and load and clearances are realistic when you book before 11am. Skips, skip bags and the grab come from the next working day. Item collections run on our Tuesday and Thursday rounds, booked by 4pm the working day before.
We cover
Hadleigh Castle, Hadleigh Country Park, London Road (A13), Victoria House Corner, St James the Less Church, John H. Burrows Recreation Ground, Daws Heath and Hadleigh Farm (Salvation Army)
Access
Mostly 20th-century semis, bungalows and chalets with driveways, plus flats over and behind the London Road shops; the A13 through the centre is busy and splits into a one-way loop around the church, so skips are best kept off the main road.

Essex County Council, through Essex Highways, issues skip licences for Hadleigh; Castle Point Borough Council does not. A skip on your drive needs nothing; on the road it needs a licence, and we apply for you. Allow at least a week. Hadleigh at a glance

Homes

Hadleigh lies on higher ground along the A13 between Thundersley and Leigh-on-Sea, with residential streets running north towards Daws Heath and south towards Hadleigh Castle Country Park. Its housing follows the Castle Point mix of detached and semi-detached houses, chalets and bungalows, with some blocks of flats. Florence Gardens is a conservation area of uniform cottages, designated in 1997 and covered by an Article 4 direction. Daws Heath is semi-rural and low-density, bordered by ancient woodland. Side access for garden waste varies from plot to plot, and flats depend on shared entrances.

Building work

Regeneration interest in Hadleigh centres on the town centre, where the A13 gyratory separates the shopping parades from one another. The Hadleigh Island site between London Road and the High Street, which holds the library, community buildings and a vacant former pub, has been promoted for homes above commercial space; a 2011 masterplan for the centre was not implemented. In Florence Gardens the Article 4 direction removes some permitted development rights, so external changes need permission. London Road carries frequent buses, which restricts where a skip or lorry can stand.

Businesses

Hadleigh town centre is strung along the A13 London Road, with a large supermarket at the western end, further food stores and a run of mainly independent shops. The primary frontages are on London Road and Rectory Road, there are cafes and pubs on the High Street, and a small parade serves Woodfield Road. Public car parks are at Rectory Road and Castle Lane. Because the road layout splits the parades, collection vehicles need to plan their approach. Typical waste is cardboard, food and glass from shops, cafes and pubs.
