From our yard
Laindon is 15 minutes from our Wickford yard via the A132 south, then the A127 west to Laindon High Road, so same-day wait and load and clearances are realistic when you book before 11am. Skips, skip bags and the grab come from the next working day. Item collections run on our Tuesday and Thursday rounds, booked by 4pm the working day before.
We cover
Laindon station, Laindon Place (former Laindon Shopping Centre), Five Links estate, High Road, Southfields Business Park, Ford Dunton Technical Centre, Dunton Plotlands and St Nicholas Church
Access
Much of the New Town housing is terraced with parking in shared courts or garage blocks, and on the Five Links estate the houses face pedestrian courtyards, so waste often has to be carried to the nearest road; older roads off the High Road have driveways.

Laindon at a glance

Homes

Laindon grew as plotland around its station in the 1920s and 1930s and was brought into Basildon new town in 1949. The Five Links estate, built in the late 1960s and early 1970s between the High Road and central Basildon, arranged houses around pedestrian courtyards with flats over garages at the edges; parts have since been rebuilt. South of the railway lies Langdon Hills, where former plotlands were redeveloped later in the century. Dunton Fields is a newer estate of about 350 homes. Courtyard houses and flats over garages mean a carry to a parking area.

Building work

The main scheme is the rebuilding of Laindon town centre on the site of the 1960s shopping centre beside the High Road: 224 homes, from one-bedroom flats to four-bedroom houses, with a supermarket, further shops and a medical centre. Earlier, the Five Links regeneration was planned to replace part of the courtyard estate with nearly 600 homes in three stages, and Dunton Fields was built in three phases. Where the original Five Links courtyards remain there is no road frontage, so a skip has to stand in a parking area, and deliveries need to allow for the walk in.

Businesses

Laindon's shopping is being re-formed around Laindon Place, the new centre replacing the demolished Laindon Shopping Centre, with a supermarket and a row of smaller units. Employment lies on the western side of the town in the Southfields industrial area and at the Dunton Technical Centre, a vehicle research and design site at the junction of West Mayne and the A127. Shops and takeaways produce cardboard, food waste and packaging, and the industrial units produce pallets, packaging and offcuts. The A127 and A13 give lorries direct routes in and out.

“We used the company to clear my late father’s garden which was heavily overgrown with sheds full of rubbish collected over 30 years in the house (hoarding). The garden was inaccessible and difficult to get into. During a heatwave Levi and his team cleared the garden back to basic as we requested which required significant work. From first contact we received professional responses and an initial timescale of availability. We then had a site visit and a further discussion on how long it would take and the cost being clear about what was involved in the costs but also confirming how the waste would be disposed of. They ensured the parking area and communal paths were cleaned following the work. We would highly recommend the company.”
