Roll on Roll Off in Shoeburyness: what to know

Shoeburyness is at the eastern tip of Southend, a former garrison town where the old barracks site has been redeveloped for housing alongside the interwar streets of Cambridge Town and the 1980s Bishopsteignton estate. Industrial estates at Towerfield Road, Vanguard Way and Campfield Road serve the area.

House building continues around the Garrison, where redevelopment for housing began in 2000 and Garrison Point on Barge Pier Road is adding apartments and townhouses close to Gunners Park. Southend's local plan proposes further sites, including 300 homes at Elm Road and a mixed-use scheme at Terminal Close. Shoebury Garrison Conservation Area, designated in 1981 and extended in 2004, contains listed buildings, so alterations there are controlled. In the Victorian terraces off West Road and the High Street, kerb space decides where a skip can go.

RoRo containers need hard standing and about 40 feet of straight access for the hook-loader. Around Shoeburyness that usually means a yard, a compound or a car park: Ness Road, West Road and Towerfield Road industrial estate are the kind of sites they suit. Units on the trading estates get early or after-hours collections, so the yard and loading bays stay clear in working time.

They can't go on the public road: licences from Southend-on-Sea City Council cover builders' skips only. A RoRo always sits on private land.

Typical Shoeburyness jobs. House and garage clearances on the North Shoebury and Bishopsteignton estates; garden clearances and shed removals from family homes; trade waste from units on Towerfield Road, Vanguard Way and Campfield Road.

“Highly Recommend - Cheaper than a skip!! Reliable and took everything he could fit on his van!! Thank you so much!!”

“Great friendly service from LM waste. They used a small iveco truck with hiab to remove 4 x 1 tonne bulk bags of soil and rubble from outside my house. The access road is unmade, narrow and unsuitable for the usual large skip/ grab lorry. I will be using them again. Thanks very much.”

“LM Waste management cleared my Mum’s garage which was full to bursting with all kinds of trash accumulated over decades. They turned up when they said they would, worked fast and efficiently, separated out the stuff she wanted to keep, filled a huge skip with the rest, cleaned up after themselves and put the good stuff neatly back on the well- swept floor of the empty garage. And came back for the broom when they saw they’d missed some sand that had fallen on the driveway. Great job. Very happy to recommend them.”
