How we price rubbish clearance →Rubbish removal in Grays: what to know
Grays is the largest town in Thurrock, with older terraced streets around the town centre and station, post-war housing at Stifford Clays and Little Thurrock, and modern estates at Chafford Hundred and Badgers Dene. Retail and trade premises run west towards Lakeside and West Thurrock.
Central Grays is built around late-Victorian terraced streets, notably the Clarence Road quarter east of the High Street, where parking is on-street and falls within controlled parking zones. North of the centre, Stifford Clays is a council-built estate of the 1950s and 1960s, while Chafford Hundred, begun in the late 1980s on former chalk quarries, mixes houses with flats. High-rise blocks stand on Argent Street near the river. In the terraces, bulky items and garden waste usually have to come out through the house; in the flats, everything depends on lifts and stairs.
On Grays's terraced streets there's rarely a drive, so the truck stops in the road, right by the front door. Plenty of Grays jobs are only a handful of items and bags: for those, build your own collection and pay online. Bigger clear-outs with help on hand often go as wait and load.
The do-it-yourself route is Linford Household Waste and Recycling Centre. No booking is needed, but the site is for Thurrock residents only and proof of address is required; trade waste is refused. Small vans and single-axle trailers under 1.8m need a council permit (6 visits a year, or 2 for a hired vehicle), trailers are only admitted on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and larger vehicles such as Ford Transits, Luton vans, tippers, flatbeds and minibuses are not allowed in. By the time you've sorted a slot, borrowed a vehicle and made two trips, a clearance has usually paid for itself.
