Waltham Abbey is a market town beside the River Lea and M25 junction 26, with a compact centre around Sun Street and the abbey church, post-war estates such as Ninefields and Roundhills, and industrial units on Brooker Road. The town's own tip on Brooker Road takes cars only, closes on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and does not accept DIY waste or rubble.
Waltham Abbey's old centre around Sun Street, Market Square and Highbridge Street lies within a conservation area of about 36 hectares containing 49 listed buildings, where plots are tight and Sun Street is closed to traffic. Residential estates such as Ninefields and Roundhills lie beyond the centre; at Roundhills, 28 terraced houses for affordable rent have been built on a former swimming pool site. Hamlets including Upshire, Sewardstone and High Beach are spread through the surrounding forest and valley. Loading is simpler on the estates than in the centre, where vehicles cannot always reach the door.
The bag needs to be within about 4 metres of where the lorry can park, on your side of the wall. Flats and blocks rarely have anywhere to stand a skip, so waste comes down to the truck instead; tell us the floor and whether there's a lift.
Because the bag sits on your own land, there's no licence from Essex County Council to arrange. Tell us when it's full and we collect within five working days.
