Epping is a market town at the end of the Central line, strung along a single High Street and hemmed in by Epping Forest and green belt. It has no recycling centre of its own: Waltham Abbey's is the closest but takes cars only and no DIY waste, so van loads and rubble have to go to Harlow.
Epping's housing ranges from cottages and Victorian villas to inter-war and post-war semi-detached houses and council-built homes. Hemnall Street was developed in the early nineteenth century, Station Road is a residential area beside the Underground terminus, and Coopersale, separated from the town by forest land, and Ivy Chimneys are residential areas in their own right. The High Street and Bell Common are conservation areas. Residents' permit parking operates in parts of the town, so a clearance vehicle may need a space arranged in advance.
Terraced streets with resident parking are routine: the truck stops in the road for a few minutes while it's loaded. Rear gardens with no side access are normal for us; we barrow it through the house on sheets if we have to.
Waltham Abbey Recycling Centre takes garden waste. Every car visit must be booked in advance (Blue Badge holders, pedestrians and cyclists are exempt). Cars only: vans, pick-ups and large trailers are not accepted, and the site does not take DIY waste or rubble. For anything bigger than a couple of bags, a collection from your Epping garden is usually quicker.
