How we price garden clearance →Garden waste collection in Southminster: what to know
Southminster is a large village on the Dengie peninsula at the end of the Crouch Valley rail line, with a compact centre around the High Street and St Leonard's Church and open farmland on all sides. The nearest tip is at Burnham-on-Crouch, which opens four days a week and does not accept vans.
Southminster is a small town on the Dengie peninsula, about three miles north of Burnham-on-Crouch, with 4,828 residents at the 2021 census. Its older centre, which includes the mainly fifteenth-century St Leonard's Church, is a designated conservation area, and the principal streets are the High Street, North Street and Station Road. Housing extends outwards towards Hall Road and Scotts Hill, where up to 249 new homes have been proposed. In the older streets it is sensible to agree where a vehicle can pull in before bulky items or garden waste are brought out.
Terraced streets with resident parking are routine: the truck stops in the road for a few minutes while it's loaded. Rear gardens with no side access are normal for us; we barrow it through the house on sheets if we have to.
Burnham-on-Crouch Recycling Centre takes garden waste. Every visit by vehicle must be booked in advance (free) and the site is for residents of the Essex County Council area, who may be asked for proof of address. Vans, pick-ups and large trailers are not accepted at Burnham. For anything bigger than a couple of bags, a collection from your Southminster garden is usually quicker.
