Rubbish removal in Southminster: what to know
Southminster is a large village on the Dengie peninsula at the end of the Crouch Valley rail line, with a compact centre around the High Street and St Leonard's Church and open farmland on all sides. The nearest tip is at Burnham-on-Crouch, which opens four days a week and does not accept vans.
Southminster is a small town on the Dengie peninsula, about three miles north of Burnham-on-Crouch, with 4,828 residents at the 2021 census. Its older centre, which includes the mainly fifteenth-century St Leonard's Church, is a designated conservation area, and the principal streets are the High Street, North Street and Station Road. Housing extends outwards towards Hall Road and Scotts Hill, where up to 249 new homes have been proposed. In the older streets it is sensible to agree where a vehicle can pull in before bulky items or garden waste are brought out.
If there is no driveway or the street has residents' parking, send a photo of the access so we can plan where to load. Plenty of Southminster jobs are only a handful of items and bags: for those, price it yourself and book online. Bigger clear-outs with help on hand often go as wait and load.
Maldon District Council empties the grey bin every two weeks with the lid closed. Bags, sacks and items left alongside the bins aren't collected, and homes on sacks can put out four at most. Anything that can't go out with the rubbish, we can clear from Southminster in one visit. The council's bin rules.
Maldon District Council recorded 383 fly-tipping incidents in 2024/25, up from 364 the year before, by the government's own figures. It can fine a household £600 for giving waste to someone who isn't licensed to carry it. Our waste carrier number is CB/DU308513, on the Environment Agency's public register.
- Charge
- £48 for 1 to 3 items, £96 for 4 to 6, £144 for 7 to 9 and £192 for 10 to 12 (the most per collection), plus £17 if any item is upholstered furniture.
