Chipping Ongar is a small market town in the Epping Forest district built along a narrow High Street, with housing estates at Shelley to the north and Marden Ash to the south and farmland and rural lanes all around. There is no recycling centre in the town; the nearest is Brentwood's at Coxtie Green Road, about 6 miles away.
Chipping Ongar's High Street is a conservation area with around 70 listed buildings, and at its narrowest the houses and shops stand very close to the carriageway. North of the centre, towards Shelley, a post-war council estate planned for about 450 houses was laid out between the Moreton and Epping roads, mostly two-storey homes with modest gardens. Marden Ash to the south and Greensted to the south-west are smaller settlements within the parish. High Street properties rarely have vehicle access at the front, whereas the estate houses are usually reached directly from the road.
Villages and farm tracks around Chipping Ongar can be narrow, so we check the access on a map before we set off and bring the right size of vehicle. If the only route from the garden is through the house, tell us and send photos of the route when you request the estimate.
Brentwood Recycling Centre accepts household garden waste. Every visit must be booked in advance (Blue Badge holders, pedestrians and cyclists are exempt).
