Laindon is the western part of Basildon, built up first as plotlands and then as New Town estates such as Five Links, where houses are arranged around pedestrian courtyards rather than roads. The old shopping centre is being redeveloped as Laindon Place, and employment is concentrated at Southfields Business Park and the Ford technical centre at Dunton.
The main scheme is the rebuilding of Laindon town centre on the site of the 1960s shopping centre beside the High Road: 224 homes, from one-bedroom flats to four-bedroom houses, with a supermarket, further shops and a medical centre. Earlier, the Five Links regeneration was planned to replace part of the courtyard estate with nearly 600 homes in three stages, and Dunton Fields was built in three phases. Where the original Five Links courtyards remain there is no road frontage, so a skip has to stand in a parking area, and deliveries need to allow for the walk in.
The grab reaches about 6 metres from where the lorry stands, so the pile can stay on the drive, the front garden or the verge. On Laindon's terraced streets there's rarely a drive, so the truck stops in the road, right by the front door. Send a photo of the pile and the road and we'll confirm the lorry can get in.
Nothing sits on the public road, so no licence from Essex County Council is needed, and there's no at least a week wait.
