Rubbish removal in Leigh-on-Sea: what to know
Leigh-on-Sea is the western end of Southend, with dense residential streets between London Road (A13) and the estuary, shops with flats above along the Broadway and Leigh Road, and the old fishing quarter of Old Leigh below the railway. It has its own tip at Leigh Marshes, open to Southend residents only.
South Leigh was largely built in the Edwardian and inter-war years: terraces near the Broadway, and semi-detached and detached houses on the Marine, Highlands and Chalkwell Hall estates. North Leigh mixes terraces, semi-detached houses, bungalows and some council-built estates. Many properties have no off-street parking, and Southend's local plan names pressure on on-street spaces as a main issue. Four conservation areas apply: Leigh Old Town, Leigh, Leigh Cliff and Chapmanslord, a 1920s garden-city estate. Clearing a terraced house here usually means loading from the street.
If there is no driveway or the street has residents' parking, send a photo of the access so we can plan where to load. Plenty of Leigh-on-Sea jobs are only a handful of items and bags: for those, price it yourself and book online. Bigger clear-outs with help on hand often go as wait and load.
Most Southend homes now have a 180-litre black bin, emptied every two weeks, and all rubbish has to fit inside with the lid closed. Extra bags left beside it may not be collected, and households that keep leaving them are logged. That's the rubbish a clearance is for: send us photos and we'll price taking it all. The council's bin rules.
Southend-on-Sea City Council recorded 2,214 fly-tipping incidents in 2024/25, up from 2,021 the year before, by the government's own figures. It can fine a household £400 for giving waste to someone who isn't licensed to carry it. Our waste carrier number is CB/DU308513, on the Environment Agency's public register.
