Skip Bags in Grays: what to know

Grays is the largest town in Thurrock, with older terraced streets around the town centre and station, post-war housing at Stifford Clays and Little Thurrock, and modern estates at Chafford Hundred and Badgers Dene. Retail and trade premises run west towards Lakeside and West Thurrock.

Central Grays is built around late-Victorian terraced streets, notably the Clarence Road quarter east of the High Street, where parking is on-street and falls within controlled parking zones. North of the centre, Stifford Clays is a council-built estate of the 1950s and 1960s, while Chafford Hundred, begun in the late 1980s on former chalk quarries, mixes houses with flats. High-rise blocks stand on Argent Street near the river. In the terraces, bulky items and garden waste usually have to come out through the house; in the flats, everything depends on lifts and stairs.

The bag needs to be within about 4 metres of where the lorry can park, on your side of the wall. A lot of Grays is terraced streets with no driveways, so a skip has to sit on the road under licence, or the waste goes straight onto a truck instead.

Because the bag sits on your own land, there's no licence from Thurrock Council to arrange. Tell us when it's full and we collect within five working days.

Typical Grays jobs. House and garage clearances in the terraced streets around the town centre; garden and shed clearances on the Stifford Clays and Little Thurrock estates; shop, office and trade waste collections between the town centre and Lakeside.

Rules
No booking is needed, but the site is for Thurrock residents only and proof of address is required; trade waste is refused. Alternative: Linford is the only household waste site in Thurrock. Essex County Council centres such as Pitsea are restricted to residents of the Essex County Council area, so Thurrock households cannot use them.

“Excellent service, called up about the removal of some building waste and they collected it the next day for a reasonable price. Hassle free experience, would recommend!”

“Highly Recommend - Cheaper than a skip!! Reliable and took everything he could fit on his van!! Thank you so much!!”

“Great friendly service from LM waste. They used a small iveco truck with hiab to remove 4 x 1 tonne bulk bags of soil and rubble from outside my house. The access road is unmade, narrow and unsuitable for the usual large skip/ grab lorry. I will be using them again. Thanks very much.”
