Wait & Load in Leigh-on-Sea: what to know
Leigh-on-Sea is the western end of Southend, with dense residential streets between London Road (A13) and the estuary, shops with flats above along the Broadway and Leigh Road, and the old fishing quarter of Old Leigh below the railway. It has its own tip at Leigh Marshes, open to Southend residents only.
Leigh has few large development sites, and the local plan's proposals are modest: flats and redevelopments along London Road, at Eastwood Old Road and in a few closes. Building work is therefore mainly on existing Edwardian and inter-war houses. In the Leigh, Leigh Cliff, Leigh Old Town and Chapmanslord conservation areas, external changes are controlled. On-street parking pressure makes skip placement awkward on terraced streets. Since May 2026 the High Street in Old Leigh has been a restricted parking zone, with no waiting or loading except in a goods vehicle bay.
On Leigh-on-Sea's terraced streets there's rarely a drive to stand a skip on, which is the usual reason for booking wait and load: the truck stops in the road, you load it, and it goes. There is no skip left behind, so no skip permit to arrange. Tell us about any parking or loading restrictions so we can check where the truck will stop.

Wait & Load in Leigh-on-Sea: your questions
What's the difference between wait and load and a skip in Leigh-on-Sea?
A skip stays while waste builds up and, on the public road in Leigh-on-Sea, needs a permit from Southend-on-Sea City Council. Wait and load is for waste ready to collect: you load the truck with our driver's help during the waiting time you book. No skip is left behind, but the truck needs a legal place to stop.
Who loads the truck on a wait and load in Leigh-on-Sea?
You and your helpers, with our driver lending a hand. The truck waits up to 15 minutes for a quarter load and 60 for a full truck, so have the waste ready before it arrives. If you'd rather we did the lifting, book a man and van collection instead, priced per item, or ask for a free rubbish clearance estimate.
Can you do wait and load in Leigh-on-Sea today?
