South Woodham Ferrers: modern estates, big gardens, and the kind of householder who wants the job done properly and on time.
South Woodham Ferrers was planned by Essex County Council as a new riverside town from the 1970s, so most homes follow the Essex Design Guide: brick, render and weatherboarded houses on small plots, set close to the road in culs-de-sac linked by footpaths. Older housing of the 1960s and early 1970s lies along Hullbridge Road near the station, with a few surviving plotland homes, and streets in the south-west carry names such as Gandalf's Ride and Hobbiton Hill. Short frontages leave little spare room, so bulky waste is usually carried out to the close.
South Woodham Ferrers Recycling Centre accepts electricals. Every visit has to be booked in advance, cars included. It's cars only, so no vans, pick-ups or large trailers. A small fridge in the back of the car is possible; a fridge-freezer or American-style unit usually isn't.
Roads near the front carry parking restrictions and get busy in summer, so we book those collections for early in the day.
Fifteen minutes from base via the A130. Easy run for us, regular bookings in CM3.
