Rubbish removal in Harlow: what to know
Harlow is a post-war New Town laid out in neighbourhoods separated by green wedges, with a lot of terraced housing served by footpaths and garage courts, blocks of flats, and newer districts at Church Langley and Newhall. Industry and trade premises are concentrated at Templefields and the Pinnacles.
Harlow was planned as a new town of distinct neighbourhoods, including Mark Hall, Netteswell, Great Parndon and Potter Street, built mainly as terraced houses with some flats; The Lawn, a listed tower block, dates from 1951. Pedestrian and vehicle routes were deliberately separated, so in places homes face footpaths or greens rather than a road. Later areas such as Sumners and Katherines from the 1970s, Church Langley and Newhall follow different layouts. From footpath-fronted terraces and upper-floor flats, bulky items need carrying some distance to the nearest road or parking area.
For blocks and conversions, include the stairs, shared entrances and any bin-store access when you enquire. These affect the carrying and the price. Plenty of Harlow jobs are only a handful of items and bags: for those, price it yourself and book online. Bigger clear-outs with help on hand often go as wait and load.
Harlow Council empties the black bin, or up to three purple sacks, every two weeks, and only what's inside with the lid shut. Building and DIY waste such as rubble, tiles, plasterboard and wood can't go in, and nor can electricals, paint or garden waste. Anything that can't go out with the rubbish, we can clear from Harlow in one visit. The council's bin rules.
Harlow Council recorded 2,546 fly-tipping incidents in 2024/25, up from 2,486 the year before, by the government's own figures. Our waste carrier number is CB/DU308513, on the Environment Agency's public register.
